Dr. Janet Hoke, photo by Lydia WilliamsDr. Janet Hoke, a two year breast cancer survivor and a horse breeder, issued a challenge with the sale of her 2007 yearlings. She pledged 10% of the amount to the Komen Lexington Affiliate if her horses brought $500,000 or more.

Her horses were sold during the Keeneland Fall Yearling Sale and the Maryland Mid-Atlantic Sale.

Dr. Hoke's horses indeed exceeded the $500,000 total and she will be making a donation in excess of $55,600. This donation is the largest single donation in the history of the Lexington Affiliate.

We thank Dr. Hoke for her generosity, as well as all the buyers for their support. It's particularly gratifying for a breast cancer survivor to want to "give back" in this incredible way.
