How does a 5k Race make a huge impact on the global movement to end breast cancer forever? Through the fundraising efforts of every participant. You don't need to be a fundraising expert to be successful at it - you just need the desire to stand up to breast cancer and make a difference. Thanks to people like you, in 2009 the Komen Lexington Affiliate was able to fund over $500,000 towards breast cancer education, screening and treatment services right here in our community! Click here to read more about our grants program.
This year we're aiming even higher. If every participant raised an average of $100 over the registration fee, the Komen Lexington Affiliate would raise an additional $700,000 this year! Together, we can save lives. Need help?

Teams
Participating in the Komen Lexington Race with a team multiplies the fun, the laughter and maybe even the tears you share on Race day. Rally around someone you know who was just diagnosed, someone who has fought the battle, or someone who may have lost the battle. Together, with your friends, family and co-workers, you will make an even greater impact than you could alone.
The Team Captain must register first and create the team before team members can join the team. Teammates can be friends, family members, co-workers, or anyone else who would like to join.

A group of women in Lexington wanted to make a difference because their lives were being touched through family and friends by breast cancer. Many of the women happened to be runners and they decided to begin the first Lexington Race for the Cure in 1997.
That first race was held at the Horse Park and had 1,700 participants. Since that date the Susan G. Komen, Lexington Affiliate has raised over $3 million in the fight against breast cancer and had over 6000 participants last year.
Seventy five percent of net funds raised stay in Kentucky, which includes 58 counties in central, eastern and southern Kentucky. That's over $520,000 granted last year to help our uninsured and under insured get the treatment, screening, and education they need. The remaining twenty-five percent is sent to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to fund National Research for breast cancer. Komen has invested nearly $1 billion in breast cancer research and community outreach programs in the past 25 years.
